How cute are these little guys? Commonly called Korean littleleaf boxwood, this shrub is a dense, many-branched, broad, compact, mounding evergreen shrub. It has a loose and open habit, unless pruned. Mr. Slow Poke, the 'Wintergreen' boxwood is a slow grower:: roughly growing only an inch and a half per year and typically is grown as a 2-2.5' tall shrub with a larger spread. However, it can reach 5' tall after 25 years if not pruned lower. The 'Wintergreen' boxwood is extremely hardy variety that is a fabulous choice for northern climates. Flowers are sparse and insignificant, but quite fragrant.
'Wintergreen', as you can guess from the name, is less likely to "bronze" in winter. Formerly known as and sometimes still sold as Buxus microphylla var. koreana 'Wintergreen'.
