A stunning variety of Heuchera, the first of its kind, cast a spell over the passing plant breeder who stood frozen to the spot for an entire growing season, ensnared by the plant's changing beauty. When the season ended he broke into cheers, "Encore! Encore!" he shouted. And so the new Coral Bell was named.
Well, not exactly. But we're sure it went something like that.
The 'Encore' Heuchera opens the season with wine colored new growth. As the foliage matures it takes on a lighter rose color, sometimes with hints of green or burnt orange, and gets a silvery overlay. In early summer it sends up tall, slender spires of pale pink flowers. Like all the Coral Bells, 'Encore' is an evergreen and brings color and interest to the winter landscape.
