More About Angelonia AngelFlare™ Cranberry
Angelonia ‘AngelFlare™ Cranberry’ brings deep, saturated cranberry red flower spikes to our selection of Angelonia. The blooms are not the brightest, nor the flashiest, but rich and grounded. They read as bold without overpowering everything around them. The blooms rise cleanly above the foliage on sturdy stems, giving the plant a strong vertical presence that doesn’t flop or collapse when the heat settles in. That’s something I pay close attention to with Angelonia. The color stays deep, the spikes stay upright, and the plant keeps a clean, intentional shape all the way through Summer.
As part of the AngelFlare™ Series, Cranberry was bred for exactly that kind of reliability—strong branching, uniform growth, and continuous flowering without needing deadheading. It doesn’t pause between bloom cycles or need constant grooming to look good. You plant it, water it, and it keeps producing. That consistency is what makes it so useful, especially in high-visibility areas where you don’t want gaps or tired-looking plants by August.
Why We Like It (Our Trials)
AngelFlare™ Cranberry has been a dependable Summer performer for us. It establishes quickly, fills out early, and resists the stretching that can make Angelonia look loose later in the season. Even during peak heat, it continues pushing strong flower spikes instead of stalling out. We’ve also seen very little disease or pest pressure.
We’ve found that it’s flexible in design, working beautifully as a focal point in containers, especially paired with crisp whites, silvers, or chartreuse foliage. In mixed beds, it adds depth and anchors brighter or lighter colors that might otherwise feel scattered. Bees visit it consistently, which is always a good sign, but even without the pollinator activity, this is a plant I trust to look good from planting through frost. When I want rich color that behaves itself through Summer, AngelFlare™ Cranberry is one I don’t hesitate to recommend.
AngelFlare™ Cranberry vs Other Angelonia
When placed alongside AngelFlare™ Black and AngelFlare™ Orchid Pink, Cranberry offers a warmer, red-toned alternative that feels richer and more energetic in the landscape. It also maintains a more upright and intentional form than Angel Mist™ Spreading White, which is bred for trailing and mass coverage rather than structure.
For gardeners who want bold color that still feels balanced and versatile, AngelFlare™ Cranberry is an excellent middle ground. Unlike Alonia™ Big Snow and Archangel™ White, which emphasize brightness and neutrality, Cranberry adds saturated color without overpowering nearby plants. AngelFlare™ Cranberry brings warmth that neither white nor deep purple varieties provide, making it especially effective in mixed plantings where strong color is desired without going too dark.
