More About ‘Compact Margie’
‘Compact Margie’ takes chartreuse foliage to the extreme, producing an almost neon-yellow green color that stands out instantly. Compared to ‘Marguerite,’ it is brighter, bolder, and significantly more aggressive in growth.
This variety is best suited for large containers or open landscape spaces where its vigor can be fully utilized. In hot climates, it thrives without slowing down, maintaining color intensity through the hottest months.
Why We Like It (Our Trials)
In our trials, ‘Compact Margie’ has been unmatched for sheer visual impact. It fills space fast and delivers nonstop color, but it does require occasional trimming to keep it in bounds. When you want loud, high-energy foliage that commands attention, this is the one.
Compact Margie vs. Other Sweet Potato Vines
Compact Margie takes everything people like about chartreuse sweet potato vine and turns the volume up. Its neon-lime foliage is noticeably brighter than Marguerite, especially in full sun, making it the most eye-catching of the light-colored varieties. Growth is significantly more aggressive, quickly outpacing both Marguerite and Tricolor, and even rivaling Blackie in spread. This vigor makes it less suited for small containers, where it can overwhelm companion plants without regular trimming. Compared to ‘Tricolor,’ it sacrifices detail and nuance in favor of raw impact and scale. When bold color, speed, and summer heat performance are the priority, ‘Compact Margie’ is the clear standout.
