More About Diascia ‘Coral Canyon®’
‘Coral Canyon®’ is a newer Diascia that we just started growing last year. Safe to say, it is a plant that overdelivered. The coral pink blooms have warmth to them, almost a glowing quality in early Spring light. They are not neon, and they are not pastel, but something perfectly balanced in between. The flowers appear in generous clusters that sit just above the foliage, creating a soft canopy of color. From a distance, the plant reads as a solid mass of coral, but up close you can appreciate the delicate twinspur flower form.
One of the biggest advantages of ‘Coral Canyon®’ is its steady performance in cool weather. It absolutely shines in Spring and again in Fall when nights cool down and daytime temperatures are mild. In regions with gentler Summers, it can continue blooming far longer than many gardeners expect. The foliage stays dense and fresh looking rather than stretching thin. I especially like using it where I need structure in a mixed container, because it anchors neighboring plants without overpowering them. For gardeners who love Diascia but want something sturdier and more self contained, this one checks a lot of boxes.
Why We Like It (Our Trials)
In our trials last year, ‘Coral Canyon®’ proved itself early. We planted it in a large mixed container near the entrance, pairing it with trailing Calibrachoa and upright Lantana. I remember expecting the Calibrachoa to steal the show, but within a few weeks, ‘Coral Canyon’ was the one drawing compliments. It filled in quickly, formed a dense mound, and kept blooming evenly across the plant. Even after heavy rains, it did not collapse or split in the center. That sturdiness is something I really value in a container performer. It establishes fast, which means customers see results quickly in their own gardens.
We also used it in a mass planting along a border, and the uniformity was impressive. ‘Coral Canyon’ stayed consistent in size and shape, creating a cohesive ribbon of coral color. It never became leggy or sparse, even as the season progressed. Bees and small pollinators were frequent visitors, especially during mild stretches of weather. I appreciate its versatility because it works just as well as a filler in containers as it does at the front of a border. When I want warm color with dependable structure and steady flowering, ‘Coral Canyon®’ is always near the top of my list.
Coral Canyon® vs. Other Diascia
Coral Canyon® stands apart from the Darla® Series due to its warmer coral-pink coloration and slightly bolder overall presence. Compared to Darla Light Pink, its color is richer and more energetic, immediately drawing the eye. Against Darla Rose, Coral Canyon® reads warmer and more playful, while Darla Rose remains cooler and more refined. When paired with Darla White, Coral Canyon® benefits from the contrast, allowing its coral tones to appear even more vibrant.
While still compact and well-suited to containers, Coral Canyon® feels less controlled than the Darla selections. The Darla varieties are more uniform and structured, making them ideal for mass plantings where consistency is critical. Coral Canyon®, by contrast, shines as a focal plant or accent within mixed containers. It blooms heavily like the Darla series but offers more personality and warmth, making it the best choice when visual punch is the goal.
