More About Lysimachia ‘Goldii’
In my experience, the rounded leaves of Lysimachia ‘Goldii’ tend to hold a richer, more stable golden color than many of the older Creeping Jenny forms, especially once summer heat sets in or when the plant is grown in partial shade. Some of the traditional selections can fade toward chartreuse or even green as the season progresses, but ‘Goldii’ keeps that warm, sunlit tone that makes it such a useful accent plant in containers and mixed plantings. Like all Creeping Jenny, it sends out long trailing stems that naturally root as they spread across soil or over the edge of containers.
The difference with ‘Goldii’ is that it tends to do this at a more controlled pace, which makes it much easier to work with in intentional designs where you want the cascading effect without the plant taking over. The foliage also tends to remain dense along the stems, creating a fuller, more polished look instead of the stretched, open growth you sometimes see in older varieties. Because of this tidy, trailing habit, it works especially well as a spiller in container combinations where consistent texture and color help unify the entire planting.
Why We Like It (Our Trials)
In our trials here at the garden center, ‘Goldii’ has proven to be one of the most dependable golden foliage trailers we grow. It spills beautifully out of containers, hanging baskets, and raised planters, but it rarely overwhelms the plants around it the way some of the more aggressive Creeping Jenny selections can. The color also stays clean and vibrant throughout the growing season rather than turning dull or uneven.
I especially appreciate how predictable it is. You still get that classic Creeping Jenny spill and ground-hugging coverage gardeners love, but with a more refined habit that makes it easier to use in retail plantings, home containers, and mixed combinations where balance really matters. Even in hot stretches of summer, the foliage tends to stay healthy and full when given consistent moisture. That reliability makes it a strong choice for gardeners who want the bright golden effect of Creeping Jenny without worrying about it becoming too aggressive in their containers or planting beds.
Lysimachia ‘Goldii’ vs. ‘Aurea’
Compared to Golden Creeping Jenny (Lysimachia ‘Aurea’), ‘Goldii’ offers Better color retention, shorter internodes, and less aggressive spreading While ‘Aurea’ excels as a fast groundcover for large areas, ‘Goldii’ is the superior option for containers, edging, and controlled landscapes. For gardeners seeking the look of Golden Creeping Jenny with better manners and more consistent color, Lysimachia ‘Goldii’ is the clear choice.
