More About Veronica ‘Moody Blues® Sky Blue’
Veronica ‘Moody Blues® Sky Blue’ produces elegant spikes of soft sky-blue flowers atop tidy, leafy clumps. The blooms rise above a neat mound of foliage, creating vertical interest and a wash of calming color that pairs beautifully with both cool and warm garden palettes.
Part of the Moody Blues® series, this variety was bred for improved garden performance, strong branching, and abundant flowering. Its refined habit makes it a versatile choice for both landscape beds and containers.
Why We Like It (Our Trials)
In our trials, ‘Moody Blues® Sky Blue’ has been a standout for its consistent bloom production and resilience in heat and humidity. It holds its color well in strong sun and continues flowering with minimal deadheading.
We especially appreciate its ability to blend seamlessly into a variety of design styles — from formal borders to informal cottage plantings. Pollinators like bees and butterflies are frequently drawn to the blooms, adding life and movement to garden spaces throughout the season.
Moody Blues® Sky Blue vs. Other Speedwell
Moody Blues® Sky Blue has a noticeably softer presence in the garden than Speedwell ‘Royal Candles’. It stays lower and more compact, with a slightly spreading habit that makes it better suited for containers, raised beds, and smaller spaces. While the upright varieties like Red Fox read as strong vertical accents, Moody Blues® blends more easily into mixed plantings without dominating nearby plants. Its sky-blue flowers are lighter and more relaxed in tone, which works well in calm, layered designs rather than bold focal plantings.
When placed next to Georgia Blue Speedwell, the difference is mostly about timing and form. Georgia Blue shines early as a groundcover, while Moody Blues® performs later in spring with a more refined, clumping habit. It doesn’t spread aggressively and stays controlled, making it easier to manage in tight designs. For gardeners who want Speedwell color in a compact, polished plant that works just as well in pots as it does in the ground, Moody Blues® Sky Blue fills that role better than the others.
