More About Bidens ‘Pretty in Pink™’
Pretty in Pink™ doesn’t look like it should be a Bidens. Most folks expect bold yellow when they hear the name, but this one shows up with soft blush-pink petals and sunny yellow centers. It’s a refreshing change of pace, especially in full-sun plantings where gentle colors usually struggle to hold their own. What really surprised me the first time I grew it was how well that softer color holds up. Pink-flowering annuals that claim to love full sun usually start strong, then fade, scorch, or sulk by mid Summer. Instead, the plant stays covered in flowers, giving you this airy, almost floating effect that still reads clearly from a distance.
Pretty in Pink™ was recently reintroduced as Pretty in Pink™ Improved by Danziger within their Timeless™ Collection. This improved version has a spreading, slightly trailing habit that fills space naturally, knitting plantings together without racing off in every direction. You get movement and softness, but the plant still behaves. It reads relaxed and natural, almost like something you’d expect to see growing wild along a path.
Why We Like It (Our Trials)
In our testing grounds in Zone 8a, Pretty in Pink™ has proved that it’s more than just a pretty face. It handled full sun, heat, humidity, and the occasional dry spell far better than most annuals I’ve worked with over the years. Once established, it just keeps blooming steadily through Summer. The flowers drop cleanly on their own, which is something I always appreciate when the garden is in full swing and time is tight.
Pretty in Pink really shines in pots and containers. It can be used as a filler or spiller in mixed containers when you want something softer than yellow but still tough enough to take the heat. It does a beautiful job softening edges in raised beds, and I’ve also used it as a low, flowering ground cover where I wanted color without bulk. Pollinators flock to it, which tells me the flowers are doing more than just looking good. It’s a plant that brings a little elegance to tough summer conditions, and those are always worth keeping around.
Pretty in Pink™ vs. Other Bidens
Pretty in Pink™ stands out with its soft, rosy-pink flowers, offering a gentler, more romantic color option within the bidens family. Compared to Bidens Blazing Star™ and Golden Empire™, both of which anchor plantings with warm yellow tones, ‘Pretty in Pink’ introduces a cooler, more delicate hue that can soothe or soften a composition.
Against Bidens White Delight™, the pink blossoms gain definition while the white amplifies the clarity of the color, making it feel brighter and more distinct. Pretty in Pink™ is an excellent choice for designs where a softer, refined color story is desired without sacrificing vigorous blooming performance.
