More About Zinnia ‘Profusion Orange’
Profusion Orange is one of those rare Zinnias that truly earns its reputation. The plants stay low, dense, and uniform while producing an almost continuous carpet of bright orange blooms throughout the growing season. Unlike older zinnia types that can stretch or collapse in midsummer, Profusion Orange maintains its shape and color even during prolonged heat and humidity. The foliage remains clean and healthy, giving the planting a polished look without the need for constant grooming. It’s equally effective in containers or planted in large drifts where the color impact really shines.
Why We Like It (Our Trials)
In our trials, Profusion Orange proved to be one of the most dependable zinnias we grow. Plants stayed remarkably uniform, with consistent height and strong branching that never opened up or thinned in the center. Flower production was relentless—blooms kept coming without deadheading, even through the hottest part of summer.
What really sets it apart is its exceptional disease resistance, especially against powdery mildew, which often sidelines other zinnias late in the season. The foliage stayed clean and attractive well into fall, making it a top performer for both home gardens and large-scale plantings. From a trial standpoint, this is a workhorse variety: tough, floriferous, and incredibly easy to recommend.
Profusion Orange vs. Other Zinnias
Profusion Orange is pure energy in plant form. Compared to Zahara® Yellow, it’s warmer and more intense, with a glow that really pops in the afternoon sun. It stays more controlled than Sweet Tooth Candy Cane and fills in more evenly than Zahara® Yellow early on.That said, Profusion Orange still behaves. Against Profusion Cherry, it reads louder and more playful, which can be exactly what a space needs.
I also prefer it over Sweet Tooth Candy Cane in beds, where consistency matters more than novelty. It’s the kind of plant you notice from the parking lot. Compared to Zahara® Cherry, it’s less dramatic but more cheerful. This is the variety I choose when gardeners want high-impact color without drama. If the goal is instant summer energy that lasts, Profusion Orange is hard to beat.
