More About Agastache ‘Kudos Coral’

Kudos Coral fills a color gap that Agastache used to be missing. For years, Hummingbird Mint leaned heavily into blues, purples, and violets, which are beautiful but definitely started to feel repetitive to us. This coral tone is softer and warmer—more peachy-pink than orange—and it plays beautifully with yellows, soft blues, and silvery foliage. I’ve found it especially useful when a planting needs warmth without intensity, something that lifts a space instead of dominating it. The Kudos™ Series was developed for gardeners who want all the color and pollinator value of Agastache without committing space to the larger, looser growers.

Kudos Coral also comes into bloom earlier than most traditional Agastache, and maintains a neat, rounded profile even through prolonged Summer heat. Even though Kudos Coral is smaller and more controlled than many traditional Agastache, it is still effective at attracting pollinators. Larger varieties like Blue Boa create bigger visual beacons simply because they’re taller, but Kudos Coral pulls its weight by blooming earlier and maintaining a steady supply of fresh flowers over a longer window.

Why We Like It (Our Trials)

In our testing grounds in Zone 8a, Kudos Coral has been one of the easiest Agastache to live with. It settles in quickly, doesn’t sulk during heat or humidity, and never asks for staking or corrective pruning. We’ve tried it along walkways, in containers, and at the front of pollinator beds where space is tight, and it consistently behaves exactly the way you hope it will. The foliage stays clean, the stems stay upright, and the plant never looks tired halfway through the season. Pollinators don’t miss it either. Bees work it constantly, butterflies drift in throughout the day, and hummingbirds seem especially drawn to the warmer coral coloring.

One planting that really sold me on Kudos Coral was watching it perform in a narrow planting strip where taller Agastache had never quite worked. We tucked it along a sunny walkway, fully expecting it to behave like a compromise plant, but it ended up stealing attention in the best way. It stayed full, flowered early, and kept hummingbirds circling all Summer. That’s when I realized how valuable a compact Agastache can be—not as a smaller substitute, but as a better fit for the way some gardens are actually laid out.

Kudos Coral vs. Other Agastache Varieties

Coral stands out for its compact size and warm, vibrant coloration, making it especially well suited for modern landscapes and smaller garden spaces. Its coral tones feel softer and more forward than the brighter, bolder hues of Kudos Mandarin, giving it a lighter, more approachable presence in mixed plantings. Compared to taller, looser varieties like Blue Fortune and Black Adder, Kudos Coral maintains a tight, well-branched habit that stays neat and proportional throughout the season.

When placed alongside deeper blue and purple selections such as Blue Boa, Kudos Coral provides a striking contrast with its warm coral-orange blooms. It pairs naturally with other compact series like Beelicious® Pink, but distinguishes itself through its bold, sunset-toned color and continuous flowering. For gardeners seeking strong hummingbird attraction, saturated color, and a controlled footprint, Kudos™ Coral is one of the most impactful compact Agastache varieties available.
