More About Delphinium ‘Magic Fountains Pure White’

‘Magic Fountains Pure White’ is a Delphinium that feels instantly classic the moment it comes into bloom. The tall, upright spikes of pure white flowers rise cleanly above the finely divided green foliage, creating a vertical accent that feels crisp and intentional. There is something about a true white Delphinium that brightens everything around it. It reflects light beautifully in the garden, especially in the softer glow of early morning or late afternoon. I often use white to calm down bold color combinations, and this variety does that effortlessly while still holding its own.

The Magic Fountains series was bred to stay more compact and noticeably sturdier, which means less flopping after heavy rain and far less staking throughout the season. You still get that elegant, upright presence that defines Delphiniums, but in a form that works in everyday gardens without constant supervision. Like all Delphiniums, it performs best in rich, well amended soil with consistent moisture and good drainage. In warmer areas, giving it a bit of afternoon shade can help preserve flower quality and extend the display.

Why We Like It (Our Trials)

In our Upstate South Carolina trials at Garden Delivery, I really started paying attention to ‘Magic Fountains Pure White’ after a late Spring thunderstorm rolled through and flattened several of our older, taller Delphiniums. We walked the rows the next morning expecting the usual cleanup, and I remember stopping because the Pure White spikes were still standing tall. They were straight, evenly spaced, and barely fazed while some of the older varieties had bent or snapped. That was the moment it earned my respect. Even as temperatures climbed into early Summer and the humidity set in, the blooms stayed a true, clean white instead of turning creamy or dull.

I have used this variety in very different settings and it has never felt out of place. One season we planted it in a more formal display bed with symmetrical boxwoods and structured plantings, and it gave us that elegant vertical line we needed. I have also cut armfuls of it for arrangements in the shop. It adds height and light to bouquets without overpowering the other flowers, whether we are working with soft blush tones or deep jewel colors. For gardeners who want that classic Delphinium presence but with real world reliability, this is one I speak about from experience, not just description.

Pure White vs. Other Delphinium Varieties

Magic Fountains Pure White is the most versatile and timeless option in the Magic Fountains Series. Compared to both Blue Sky White Bee and Lavender White Bee, Pure White acts more as a visual anchor, helping other colors stand out rather than competing with them. While it lacks the color variation of the Bee selections, its strength is consistency and brightness.

When placed next to Magic Fountains Mix, it feels calmer and more refined, especially in structured borders or formal gardens. Like the others, it maintains the same sturdy, compact habit that defines the Magic Fountains series. I often use Pure White as a reset button in the garden when things start to feel too busy.
