More About Bacopa ‘MegaCopa™ Blue’
MegaCopa™ Blue is the Bacopa we recommend when customers want that familiar trailing blue look, but with more substance than the older varieties most of us grew up with. The flowers are larger and easier to see from a distance, reading as a clear sky blue with soft lavender undertones rather than fading into a dull haze. Against the small, clean green foliage, the color stays crisp and light, which makes it incredibly easy to pair with whites, yellows, pinks, and even deeper jewel tones. The plant naturally forms a mounded base before cascading, so it fills the pot first and then spills, instead of immediately turning stringy. That growth habit alone makes containers look finished much earlier in the season.
What really separates the MegaCopa™ Series™ line is how well it branches and holds flower coverage. Instead of producing a few long stems with flowers scattered along them, MegaCopa™ Blue builds density, keeping blooms coming along the entire length of the plant. I’ve found it looks “stocked” and intentional far sooner than traditional Bacopa, even in mixed containers where competition can be tough. It also holds up better through heat than older selections, continuing to flower when lesser Bacopas start to stall or thin out. From a grower’s standpoint, it’s a meaningful improvement, not just a slight upgrade.
Why We Like It (Our Trials)
In trial gardens in Upstate South Carolina, MegaCopa™ Blue has consistently acted like a problem-solver plant, especially in mixed planters where weaker Bacopa tend to disappear in the dog days of Summer. It flowers steadily from Spring through Fall without long gaps, and more importantly, the plant holds its body. Instead of stretching into a few thin, wandering stems, it stays dense and evenly branched, which keeps containers looking intentional rather than tired. That habit matters in real-world pots where plants compete for light, water, and space. MegaCopa™ Blue fills open pockets, softens hard container edges, and maintains coverage without needing constant trimming or babysitting.
We also like how adaptable the color is in design. The clear blue-lavender tone cools down hot color combinations and gives breathing room to brighter flowers. It pairs beautifully with whites, helps yellows feel cleaner, and gives oranges a more polished look instead of letting them run wild. Even late in the season, when many spillers start to fade or thin, this one keeps contributing. When customers ask for a trailing plant that stays full, keeps flowering, and doesn’t turn wispy halfway through summer, MegaCopa™ Blue is one of the easiest recommendations we make.
MegaCopa™ Blue vs. Other Bacopa
When I compare MegaCopa™ Blue to other Bacopa, the difference shows up almost immediately in both flower size and presence. When you put MegaCopa™ Blue next to MegaCopa™ White, the contrast is more about tone than performance. Both share the same strong branching and heavy bloom coverage, but Blue brings a cooling, calming color that’s incredibly flexible. Compared to MegaCopa™ Pink, Blue reads cooler and calmer, making it easier to use as a balancing color when containers lean warm or bold.
Compared to the more restrained Scopia® Gulliver series, MegaCopa™ Blue feels fuller and more confident in a container. Gulliver varieties stay tidy and controlled, which can be nice in smaller pots, but they don’t have the same visual weight. MegaCopa™ Blue produces larger flowers and a more generous trailing habit, which gives hanging baskets and mixed containers a finished look much earlier in the season.
