More About Leucanthemum ‘REALFLOR® Real Sunbeam’

Leucanthemum ‘REALFLOR® Real Sunbeam’ is one of those Shasta Daisies that immediately catches your eye because the color feels a little different from the usual. Instead of the classic white petals, the blooms open a soft buttery yellow that almost glows in the sunlight. Early in the bloom cycle the petals carry a gentle lemon tone, and as the flowers mature they gradually soften to a lighter creamy yellow. When several plants are blooming together, that subtle shift in color gives the planting a warm, layered look that almost feels like sunlight floating above the foliage.

This variety is part of the REALFLOR® breeding series, which focuses heavily on plant structure and bloom consistency. In practical terms, that means the plant grows with strong branching and sturdy stems that hold the flowers upright instead of letting them flop or lean. The overall habit feels balanced and intentional, with the blooms sitting neatly above the foliage rather than stretching awkwardly. It ends up looking like a very refined version of a Shasta Daisy, with cleaner structure and more uniform flowering across the plant.

Why We Like It (Our Trials)

In our trials here at Garden Delivery, ‘Real Sunbeam’ impressed us right away with its structure and color stability. The plants formed strong, well-branched clumps that looked full and balanced even before flowering began. Once the buds opened, the plant quickly developed a generous layer of blooms that sat evenly across the canopy rather than just on a few taller stems. One of the things I always watch with yellow daisies is how they handle heat. Some yellow-flowering varieties can develop muddy tones or lose their brightness after a few hot weeks. ‘Real Sunbeam’ stayed remarkably clean in color, even during warm sunny stretches. The buttery yellow remained soft and cheerful without fading unevenly or browning around the edges.

The stems also proved to be surprisingly sturdy. After a couple of strong rainstorms during our trial season, the plants held their flowers upright without collapsing or splaying outward. That upright structure kept the plant looking polished and tidy, which is something I always appreciate in a perennial border where structure matters just as much as flower color. Another thing we noticed quickly was how easy the color is to work with in the garden. The soft pastel yellow doesn’t compete with neighboring plants the way brighter yellows sometimes can. Instead, it blends beautifully with cooler tones. We planted it near salvias, nepeta, and purple veronica in one trial bed, and the combination looked fantastic. It also paired nicely with ornamental grasses and silvery foliage plants, where the warm yellow added a soft glow to the planting.

REALFLOR® Real Sunbeam vs. Other Shasta Daisies

‘REALFLOR® Real Sunbeam’ is the most visually distinctive variety in this group thanks to its warm, soft-yellow petals that set it apart from traditional white Shasta daisies. Compared to ‘Flower Power’ and Sweet Daisy® Jane it delivers a gentler, more nuanced color palette rather than stark contrast. Its blooms feel more modern and refined than Sweet Daisy® Izabel, making it ideal for mixed borders and contemporary landscapes. While it may not match Flower Power  for raw bloom volume, its unique coloration provides design flexibility that the others simply don’t offer.
