More About Coleus ‘ChargedUp™ Electric Lime’

This one right here is pure energy in plant form. ‘ChargedUp™ Electric Lime’ is about as bold as Coleus foliage gets. The intense neon chartreuse color absolutely glows in the landscape and it demands attention. In full sun, it almost looks illuminated, especially in the late afternoon when the light hits it just right. If you want contrast, brightness, and punch, this is your plant.

As part of the ChargedUp™ series, it was specifically selected for sun tolerance, strong branching, and structural stability. Years ago, we had to baby lighter-colored Coleus in shade because they would scorch, fade, or collapse in direct sun. Not this one. ‘Electric Lime’ holds its color beautifully without bleaching out, and it maintains strong stems that keep the plant upright and full. And when mass planted? It becomes a striking wave of chartreuse that can completely redefine a planting area.

Why We Like It (Our Trials)

In our trials here in the Upstate heat, ‘ChargedUp™ Electric Lime’ proved itself fast. We planted it in full sun conditions where afternoon temperatures pushed well into the 90s, and it never skipped a beat. The foliage stayed clean, vibrant, and electric and it filled in quickly while maintaining a strong upright form. One summer, we paired it with deep burgundy coleus and bright red begonias in a large sun container near our entrance. The contrast was dramatic; the lime foliage made every darker plant look richer and more saturated.

This is one of those plants I reach for again and again because it simply works. In a container, ‘Electric Lime’ makes a commanding centerpiece. The upright habit gives you height, and that neon chartreuse color creates instant brightness without needing a single bloom. In landscape beds, it acts like a spotlight. I’ve used it to anchor long runs of annual color, and it naturally pulls your eye down the border, giving the whole planting a sense of cohesion and energy.

ChargedUp™ Electric Lime vs. Other Coleus

Electric Lime is the brightest Coleus in our lineup, outshining ‘Volcanica™ Wasabi’, ‘Bonnie Gold’ in pure intensity. Electric Lime’ is unapologetically bold. The color reads almost neon in full sun, making it visible from long distances in the landscape. This intensity gives it instant impact even when planted sparingly. Compared to ‘Down Town® Vegas Neon’, Electric Lime is cleaner and less patterned, making it easier to design with at scale.

Against darker anchors like ‘Defiance’ and ‘Down Town® Greenville’, and Electric Lime delivers maximum contrast and energy. The bright foliage creates a striking push-pull effect when paired with deep reds and burgundies. For gardeners looking for maximum brightness and high-impact foliage that instantly energizes containers and landscapes, ‘ChargedUp™ Electric Lime’ is an exceptional choice.
