More About Calibrachoa ‘Superbells® Blackcurrant Punch™’
Calibrachoa ‘Superbells® Blackcurrant Punch™’ is a standout Million Bells variety known for its rich, blackcurrant-purple blooms and exceptional garden performance. The flowers are deeply saturated with dark centers, creating a dramatic, velvety look that holds its intensity even in full sun.
As part of the proven Superbells® series, this variety was bred for strong vigor, excellent branching, and consistent flowering. Unlike some dark calibrachoa that can fade or thin out, ‘Blackcurrant Punch™’ maintains dense bloom coverage and a balanced trailing habit from early spring through frost.
Why We Like It (Our Trials)
In our trials, ‘Superbells® Blackcurrant Punch™’ has been a reliable performer in full-sun containers and hanging baskets. It establishes quickly, trails evenly, and continues flowering heavily with regular feeding, even during peak summer heat.
We especially like its design versatility. The deep purple blooms pair beautifully with whites, silvers, chartreuse foliage, and bright accent colors, making it an excellent anchor plant in mixed containers. Flowers are self-cleaning, keeping maintenance to a minimum throughout the season.
Blackcurrant Punch vs Other Calibrachoa Varieties
Within the Superbells® Lineup, Blackcurrant Punch is one of the deepest, most saturated purple selections available. Compared to Grape Punch and Pomegranate Punch, it reads cooler and darker, with less red influence and more nighttime depth. Where Grape Punch leans brighter and more playful, Blackcurrant Punch feels moodier and more dramatic. Against Watermelon Punch, which introduces brighter pink tones and higher contrast, Blackcurrant Punch stays uniform and refined, making it a stronger choice for monochromatic or high-contrast black-and-white designs.
Outside the Superbells® family, Blackcurrant Punch overlaps visually with darker Cabaret® Selections, but it carries more vigor and flower size than most Cabaret types. Compared to the Cha-Cha™Series, which is energetic and expressive, Blackcurrant Punch feels more grounded and architectural. When paired with Colibri® Pure White, its depth becomes even more pronounced. While next to Caliloco Dracula, Blackcurrant Punch reads cleaner and more classic, lacking Dracula’s novelty contrast but offering far broader design versatility.
