More About Supertunia® ‘Bordeaux™’

‘Bordeaux™’ is all about depth and drama. The blooms are a rich, wine-red with a velvety finish that reads elegant rather than loud, making it one of the best dark-toned petunias for refined plantings. The color holds exceptionally well through summer heat and strong sun without fading to muddy tones.

As a Supertunia®, it’s bred for performance first. The plant spreads outward quickly, filling space with dense foliage and continuous flowers rather than stretching thin. It works beautifully as a grounding color in mixed containers or as a bold mass planting where you want consistent coverage and strong color presence.

Supertunia® Bordeaux™ vs. Other Petunias

Bordeaux™ is the most wine-toned and luxurious option in the Supertunia® Lineup Its velvety blooms read deep and mature, avoiding the brightness seen in many reds. Compared to Supertunia® Black Cherry, Bordeaux is darker and less red-forward. Supertunia® Really Red offers extremely bold red blooms, while Bordeaux feels restrained and refined. Bordeaux is more calm and grounding, lacking the intricate pattern of Hoopla™ Vivid Orchid, but offering depth. Bordeaux changes the tone of a planting more than its shape.

Compared to the Supertunia Vista® Series, Bordeaux offers much more design control. Vista varieties overwhelm space quickly, while Bordeaux allows intentional placement. Vista® Jazzberry™ is the most similar Vista variety to Bordeaux, as both deliver deep, saturated color with a rich, moody presence. The difference lies in scale—Bordeaux excels in containers and refined plantings, while Jazzberry is for large, high-impact landscape coverage. Against Crazytunia® Petunias, Bordeaux feels traditional and stable. Crazytunias are playful and graphic, while Bordeaux is consistent and dependable. Design-wise, Bordeaux elevates containers and formal landscapes.
