More About Lantana ‘Trailing White’

Lantana ‘Trailing White’ is prized for its crisp, clean white flower clusters that bring a cooling, brightening effect to sunny plantings. Blooms are produced continuously from late spring through frost, forming a flowing blanket of white that remains fresh-looking even through intense heat and dry conditions. The flowers sit just above the foliage, creating a soft, layered effect that reads beautifully in both close-up plantings and large-scale applications.

Unlike upright or compact lantana varieties, ‘Trailing White’ spreads outward rather than upward, developing a low, cascading habit that emphasizes movement and coverage over height. This makes it especially effective for spilling over the edges of containers, softening retaining walls, and covering slopes or open ground. Its spreading nature allows it to knit together plantings quickly, creating a cohesive, finished look with minimal effort.

Why We Like It (Our Trials)

In our trials, ‘Trailing White’ has proven extremely dependable in full sun, thriving through hot summers with very little supplemental irrigation once established. It fills space rapidly, maintains steady bloom, and shows excellent tolerance to drought and poor soils, even when other flowering plants begin to fade.

We especially appreciate its versatility and design flexibility. The neutral white blooms pair effortlessly with bold colors, soft pastels, and ornamental grasses, acting as a unifying element in mixed plantings. At the same time, butterflies and bees visit it consistently throughout the season, making it both a practical and pollinator-friendly choice for landscapes and containers alike.

Trailing White vs. Other Lantana Varieties

Trailing White Lantana is all about spread and softness, offering a low, cascading habit that sets it apart from upright series like our Lucky® Lantanas. Compared to Trailing Lavender, White reads cleaner and brighter, making it especially effective for lightening up containers, hanging baskets, and retaining walls. Against Little Lucky™ White, Trailing White offers a cascading alternative instead of a tidy mound.

When compared to the Bandana® Series, Trailing White is far less upright and significantly more spreading, trading structure for coverage. It also contrasts with Chapel Hill Yellow, delivering a similar spreading function but with a lighter, more neutral color palette and a slightly less aggressive growth habit. Trailing White is the best Lantana to use when the goal is drape and ground-hugging performance rather than compact form.
