More About Lantana ‘Trailing White’

‘Trailing White’ is valued for its bright clusters of pure white flowers that bring a clean, refreshing look to sunny plantings. The blooms appear continuously from late Spring through Fall, forming a soft blanket of white that remains fresh even through the heat of Summer. Each cluster sits just above the foliage, creating a layered display where flowers seem to float across the plant. From a distance the effect is almost luminous, especially when sunlight reflects off the crisp white blooms.

This variety develops a naturally spreading, cascading growth habit that allows it to flow outward across planting spaces. Rather than growing tall, it moves horizontally, sending stems outward that quickly knit together to create a low, flowering carpet. The trailing form makes it especially useful for spilling over the edges of containers, softening stone walls, or covering open areas where a flowing groundcover effect is desired. Once established, it fills space quickly and creates a unified, finished appearance in the landscape.

Why We Like It (Our Trials)

In our trials here in the Upstate South Carolina heat, ‘Trailing White’ has been remarkably dependable in full sun. I remember planting a group along the edge of one of our display beds where the soil tends to dry out quickly. Even during long stretches of hot Summer weather, the plants kept spreading and blooming steadily with very little attention. The white flowers stayed bright and clean, which can sometimes be difficult for lighter colored blooms in intense sun.

What I especially appreciate about this Lantana is how easily it blends into almost any planting scheme. White flowers naturally connect different colors together, so it works beautifully alongside bold annuals, softer pastel flowers, or ornamental grasses. At the same time, it adds movement to a planting as the stems gently spill and weave through the space. Butterflies and bees visit the flowers constantly throughout the season, bringing extra life and activity to areas where this plant is used.

Trailing White vs. Other Lantana Varieties

Trailing White Lantana is all about spread and softness, offering a low, cascading habit that sets it apart from upright series like our Lucky® Lantanas. Compared to Trailing Lavender, White reads cleaner and brighter, making it especially effective for lightening up containers, hanging baskets, and retaining walls. Against Little Lucky™ White, Trailing White offers a cascading alternative instead of a tidy mound. 

When compared to the Bandana® Series, Trailing White is far less upright and significantly more spreading, trading structure for coverage. It also contrasts with Chapel Hill Yellow, delivering a similar spreading function but with a lighter, more neutral color palette and a slightly less aggressive growth habit. Trailing White is the best Lantana to use when the goal is drape and ground-hugging performance rather than compact form.
