More About Lantana ‘Bandana® Lemon Zest’

‘Bandana® Lemon Zest’ brings a fresh, citrus-yellow tone that feels lighter and more refreshing most Lantana varieties. The flower clusters are crisp and clean, almost glowing in full sun, and they hold that clarity even as temperatures climb. Where some yellows can dull or turn brassy in peak Summer, ‘Lemon Zest’ keeps a clear lemon hue that brightens containers and borders instantly. It is the kind of color that makes surrounding plants look sharper and more intentional.

As part of the Bandana® Series, it was bred for compact size, uniform growth, and nonstop flowering. The branching is tight and controlled, so the plant builds into a rounded, mounded shape rather than stretching or opening up midseason. You get heavy bloom production without the excessive size or legginess older types sometimes showed. In both containers and in-ground beds, it stays balanced and polished, making it easy to use in formal and casual designs alike.

Why We Like It (Our Trials)

One of the first times we really noticed ‘Lemon Zest’ was during a particularly bright, dry Summer when we were trialing multiple yellows side by side. Some faded. Some stalled. ‘Lemon Zest’ just kept pushing bloom after bloom, holding that clean lemon tone long after others lost their edge. It did not require constant deadheading, and it maintained a tight, rounded habit with very little intervention from us. Even as temperatures hovered in the upper 90s, it looked fresh and energized.

Another season, we paired it in large patio containers with deep purple Salvia and silver foliage, and the contrast was striking. Customers consistently gravitated toward that combination because the lemon-yellow lifted the entire arrangement without overwhelming it. Butterflies worked the blooms steadily, and bees were regular visitors from morning into late afternoon. It handles full sun and high heat with confidence, and once established, it tolerates dry stretches beautifully. For us, it has proven to be one of the most versatile and refined yellows in the Lantana lineup.

Bandana® Lemon Zest vs. Other Lantana Varieties

Bandana® Lemon Zest is one of the most energetic-looking varieties in the Bandana® Series, featuring bright yellow blooms accented with hints of chartreuse that give it a fresh, zesty appearance. Compared to standard Bandana® Yellow or Gold, Lemon Zest feels lighter and more luminous, especially in full sun. It pairs exceptionally well with darker varieties like Red or Cherry, where the contrast is striking.

While Lucky® and Little Lucky™ varieties are known for compactness and early color, Bandana® Lemon Zest stands out for its brightness and mid-season vigor. Little Lucky™ Yellow tones are tighter and more controlled, but Lemon Zest delivers a bolder, more luminous look in the landscape. Compared to Chapel Hill Yellow, Lemon Zest stays far more contained, offering color pop without the aggressive spreading habit.
