More About Petunia ‘Crazytunia® Black Mamba’
Petunia ‘Crazytunia® Black Mamba’ is known for its intense, velvety near-black blooms with a subtle sheen that gives the flowers a sleek, almost lacquered appearance. The color is deep and saturated, holding exceptionally well in full sun compared to many dark petunias that fade or bronze in heat.
The plant produces a steady stream of blooms on a full, spreading habit, making it equally effective as a focal plant in containers or as a dramatic accent in mixed plantings.
Why We Like It (Our Trials)
In our trials, ‘Black Mamba’ has proven to be surprisingly dependable for a dark-flowered petunia, maintaining strong bloom count and color intensity through summer heat. With regular feeding, it stays full and balanced without excessive stretching.
We especially appreciate its design impact. Few annuals offer this level of drama, and ‘Black Mamba’ pairs beautifully with whites, yellows, chartreuse foliage, silvers, and bright pinks for striking contrast.
Crazytunia® Black Mamba vs. Other Petunias
Within the Crazytunia® Series, ‘Black Mamba’ is the darkest and most dramatic option available. Compared to Crazytunia® Black & White, which relies on sharp contrast, Black Mamba delivers a solid, near-black purple that feels deeper and more dramatic. Against Bananarama’s bright, playful yellow, Black Mamba reads moody and refined rather than energetic. It shares the same strong branching and compact habit as the rest of the Crazytunia® series, but visually it carries more weight and presence.
Compared to the Supertunia® Series, Crazytunia® Black Mamba remains more restrained and container-focused, rather than landscape-driven. Supertunia® Mini Vista™ Midnight spreads much wider and lower than Black Mamba. Mini Vista Midnight uses deep purple color to dominate space and coverage in the landscape, while Black Mamba delivers near-black drama in containers. When compared to a similar dark petunia like Black Magic, Black Mamba offers better branching and a fuller plant shape. Black Magic can feel sparse over time, while Black Mamba stays dense. That structural reliability is what gives it the edge.
